Great Hikes in 2002

A list of my hikes in 2002
2002
- 13 January: Up Table Mountain via India Venster to meet someone at
the top cable station. Using a GPS, we went geocaching
and found the cache we were looking for somewhere near Maclears Beacon.
- 23 February: Another popular hike on Table Mountain: up Skeleton
Gorge, across to see the Camps Bay view down Kasteelspoort, and back down
Nursery Ravine to Kirstenbosch.
- 23 April: Two honeymoon walks in the Wilderness area: one long walk
along the beach in the mist, and another from Victoria Bay along the Outeniqua
Choo-Tjoe line to the Kaaimans River bridge and back, watching the dolphins.
- 26 April: The Blue Duiker trail in the Storms River area (Tsitsikamma
National Park)
- 30 April: A walk to the Madonna and Child falls and Tyumie
River falls in the Hogsback mountains (at the very end of the Amatola Trail)
- 4 May: Not exactly a hike - a spectacular tractor ride up Arangieskop
near Montagu. Even if it's not much exercise, it's a must for any hiker, and
also a chance for the disabled to enjoy the hiking experience.
- 16 June: Llandudno corner - starting from Suikerbossie, on a nice
sunny winter's day. Up Llandudno Buttress, and down Llandudno Ravine.
- 17 June: Silvermine to Elephant's Eye. A miserable misty windy day
- quite sheltered on the Tokai side of the mountain. We were planning to do
the panorama circuit with fantastic views over Hout Bay, but the weather didn't
cooperate. Two hikes in two days... a good use for a long weekend.
- 13 October: A Kalk Bay Caves outing with the Scouts. We went right
through Boomslang (saw thousands of bats), into White Dome, a bit in Avernus
(splash splash), Oread Halls, and finally a tight squeeze into Robin Hood,
as far as the first chimney.
- 23-24 November: An overnight hike in the Cederberg with Carol. Starting
at Driehoek, camping at Die Rif (what a nice place) and taking in Wolfberg
Arch on the second day.
